But when Deltroit Station was sold in 2013 after Anthony moved to the United Kingdom, the link between Deltroit and Humula was broken.
“The acquisition (of Humula Station) gave my agribusiness interests some economies of scale in relation to the utilisation of manpower, plant and machinery, bull power and gave us a combined livestock carrying capacity of 43,000 DSE, of which Humula provided 13,000DSE,” Anthony said.
Humula and Deltroit were just 28km apart.
“After the sale of Deltroit, the Toronga/Humula link was not seen as particularly conducive to that objective, recognising the size and distance differential,” he said.
“As a result, I determined to put Humula Station on the market.”
Anthony bought Humula Station in 2006, and since then has completed a major pasture renovation program under the guidance of Mark Lucas, an agronomist from Tumut.
It has expanded the grazing to offer spring/summer native grasses balanced with a winter active sub clover base in some paddocks.
“This is the key to year-round energy requirements of our cattle breeding and finishing operation,” Anthony said.
“A further initiative has been our native timber revegetation program, giving a good balance of livestock shade and weather protection.”
Humula Station has a rainfall of 825mm and most of the property has an easterly aspect.
Water is supplied to stock from the Umbango Creek, as well as excellent water storage and distribution systems.
The property has been fenced and laid out to suit stock and a laneway system allows easy management and movement of stock.
The three-bedroom homestead is set on the Umbango Creek, and there is also a manager’s house. Improvements include steel cattle yards, four-bay machinery shed, another machinery shed, hay shed and grain silos.
