Four islands near picturesque Flinders Island, Tasmania, are up for grabs in a rare chance to secure an oasis of their own.

Tasmanian Islands Pty Ltd, directed by former Victorian state politician Clem Newton-Brown and business partner Chris Wilson, are selling two individual islands located among the Furneaux Group.

The Furneaux Group comprises more than 100 islands at the eastern end of Bass Strait, between Victoria and Tasmania, of which there are nine islands that have freehold property on them.

Tasmanian Islands Pty Ltd are selling the 17ha Little Dog Island, a 15-minute boat ride from the Lady Barron Wharf on Flinders Island, priced at $775,000, after deciding to alter their business direction.

Tasmanian Islands Pty Ltd had planned to develop tourism experiences on their islands in conjunction with the local community, however, they are now pursuing tourism investment elsewhere in Tasmania.

Alongside two beaches, the Little Dog Island comprises two additional freehold titles and Crown Land with two cedar huts, a connecting deck and a composting toilet.

The group is also selling the 6.66ha Little Green Island, located 1km offshore from the Lady Barron township on Flinders Island with just one uninhabited title and the balance of Crown land, priced at $575,000.

Formerly home to a shearing shed and birding huts, the island is currently vacant, although during Tasmanian Islands Pty Ltd’s tenure, significant work has been done in preparing planning applications with flora and fauna studies, weed and pest management plans, architectural plans and Aboriginal heritage studies. All reports, studies, plans and IP developed will be provided following the sale.

Also in the Furneaux Group the 16.25ha Puncheon Island, a 20-minute boat ride from Lady Barron on Flinders Island, is for sale at $800,000 to $1 million.

After 26 years of ownership a private vendor is selling the Puncheon Island which has been used as a holiday destination and also for permanent habitation.

“It is the only freehold island in the Furneaux Group and it could be yours. The island boasts a three-bedroom cottage with solar panels and a backup generator, and a wharf,” Nutrien Harcourts Tasmania agent Sharn Blyth said.

Ms Blyth is handling the sale of Little Dog Island (in conjunction with Knight Frank) and Little Green Island (in conjunction with Elders) via expressions of interest, as well as Puncheon Island.

Also among the Furneaux Group, the Crown leasehold of the 1220ha Prime Seal Island is for sale via Expressions of Interest.

Located 21km west of Flinders Island, the Island has carried 290 mixed cattle and 450 sheep in previous seasons and is for sale having previously been auctioned in 1986 and then again in 2014.

Six years remains on the lease after it was renewed in 2010.

Meanwhile, Mr Newton-Brown is also selling the 6750 sqm Picnic Island, located 800m offshore on Tasmania’s prized Freycinet Peninsula, near Wineglass Bay and the town of Coles Bay.

Several years ago a copper-clad lodge complex was built on the island which can accommodate 10 people. There is also a jetty, walking trails and a function deck approved for small events.

Knight Frank Hobart agent Scott Newton and Sotheby’s International agent Rob Curtain listed Picnic Island for sale last year, with the property still on the market.
