A HISTORIC mixed-farming enterprise in southern NSW could fetch upwards of $30 million after hitting the market for the first time in 150 years.

Considered one of the most historic rural holdings in the Cootamundra district, Gilgal — including Winona and O’Connor’s — comprises three contiguous properties covering about 3618ha.

The sprawling blue-ribbon property has a price guide from $27 million to $32 million.

Gilgal has been owned by the Ward family for almost 150 years.

Selling agent, Inglis Rural Property director Jamie Inglis, said the family had continually developed the holding with a focus on increasing productivity, streamlining operations, improved fencing, agronomic development and upgrading the accommodation and working infrastructure.

“It is an efficient and well-managed holding with excellent economies in labour, livestock production, processing and buying power,” Mr Inglis said.

The holding has scope to carry about 8000 composite ewes producing 10,000-12,000 prime lambs annually in addition to about 350 breeding cows and followers plus crop, equating to about 34,000-38,000 dry sheep equivalents.

A main feature of the property is its historic original homestead, which was built about 1870.

The Gilgal homestead, stables, gardens and outbuildings are the headquarters of the farm.

Inglis Rural Property sales manager Sam Triggs said this was a “turnkey opportunity for an investor or family operator”.

The composite sheep flock and Angus cattle herd are available with purchase by negotiation.

Expressions of interest close September 25, with the property to be sold as a whole or as three individual holdings.
