GINA Rinehart, mining magnate and cattle queen, has listed a $300-million portfolio of cattle stations in the Northern Territory and Western Australia for sale — sprawling 1.876 million hectares of grazing country.

Ms Rinehart — who is Australia’s biggest property owner and the country’s richest person — is selling seven cattle stations and one feedlot, with the offering including almost 110,000 cattle.

The sale will account for almost 20 per cent of the 10 million ha of cattle country owned by Ms Rinehart through Hancock Agriculture and S. Kidman & Co, of which she is the majority owner.

It follows reports in November last year that Hancock Agriculture had planned to offload property assets.

The sale comes at a time when beef cattle prices have hit record highs and demand for large-scale grazing properties is strong.

Elders has been appointed to manage the sale.

The sale includes:

Aroona Station, Northern Territory — 147,510ha.

Willeroo Station, Northern Territory — 171,000ha

Riveren and Inverway Stations, Northern Territory — 55,400ha

Nerrima Station, Western Australia — 203,142ha

Ruby Plains and Sturt Creek Station, Western Australia — 796,134ha

Phoenix Park feedlot, Northern Territory — 3443ha

Elders general manager real estate Tom Russo said the sale represented a rare opportunity to acquire a strategically constructed portfolio of assets at scale during a period of unprecedented growth in demand for Australian protein.

“The geographical locations of the individual stations, coupled with the completion of extensive and high-quality capital improvements program and a refinement of the breeder herd, allows for the operation of an efficient beef production enterprise, which enjoys economies of scale and operation flexibility,” Mr Russo said.

“This ultimately results in higher productivity and returns”.

Hancock Agriculture has more than 30 properties in its portfolio and is the second largest beef producer in the country. It intends to retain and grow its remaining operations in Queensland, South Australia, NSW and the NT.
