Country estate Bundarbo station owned by late Channel 9 boss Sam Chisholm up for grabs for $30 million

A cattle farm considered to be one of Australia’s most outstanding rural properties, owned by late media executive Sam Chisholm, is now up for grabs, complete with an eye-popping price tag.

Bundarbo Station, the cattle farm of late media executive Sam Chisholm and his wife Sue, has been listed for sale.

The working farm, considered one of Australia’s outstanding rural properties, is in Jugiong, a small community on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River northwest of Canberra.

The Chisholms are only the second owners of the property since its settlement in the 1840s by the Osborne pastoral family, who sold it in 1995.

Sue said they spent many wonderful years at Bundarbo, an easy 3½ hour drive from Sydney. The couple spent much of their time there after the pressures of business had gone from Sam’s life.

Chisholm is credited with shaping the TV landscape both locally and internationally, during the decades he worked variously for Kerry Packer and Rupert Murdoch.

The area is perfect for entertaining.

“Sam always believed in the importance of giving back to the land,” Sue told The Saturday Telegraph. “But it is now time to pass it on to someone who will look after this unique property and cherish it as much as we have.” Chisholm passed away aged 78 in July.

The farm will be sold on a walk-in, walk-out basis through Meares & Associates Sydney agent Chris Meares with a $30 million-plus price guide.

Overlooking a billabong, the extended four-bedroom homestead sits in Edna Walling gardens from the 1950s which have been overseen by Walling enthusiast Trisha Dixon. The gardens, which roll down into the Murrumbidgee River, were opened last weekend to the Australian Garden History Society.

Now that’s a sunroom.

The outbuildings include two three-bedroom guesthouses, three staff houses and a five-bedroom shearers quarters.

There’s also two pools, clay tennis court and a helipad. The original stables were converted into an entertainer’s space known as The Pub, comprising a bar, jukebox, TV, commercial kitchen and seating for 100.
