Two prominent NSW grazing properties, valued at more than $33 million combined, have returned mixed results at separate auctions.

A Chinese family, trading as the Sydney-headquartered Mooney Pastoral Company, have sold one of their flagship agricultural properties – Tuwinga – a 2287ha holding on the southwestern edge of the NSW Liverpool Plains.

Listed for sale in April, Tuwinga was auctioned yesterday where it was sold under the hammer for $17.3 million.

On the day, bidding began at $16 million before an it was sold with a winning bid equivalent to about $7560 a hectare.

German billionaire and chairwoman of agricultural machinery company the Claas Group, Cathrina Claas-Muehlhaeuser, was reportedly the purchaser of the Tuwinga property, adding it to her Tamalie Farms holding at nearby Blackville.

Located near Bundella, halfway between Quirindi and Gunnedah, the Mooney Pastoral Company purchased Tuwinga in 2018 privately, with the property not previously offered to market since it was settled in the mid-1800s by the Traill family.

Under the Mooney Pastoral Company’s stewardship, Tuwinga had been run as an Angus cattle-breeding and trading enterprise together, with a summer and winter-crop operation.

The vendors of Tuwinga are retaining their other Bundella cattle property, Telargra, which spans 3830ha and carries more than 7000 head of cattle.

Elders Real Estate Tamworth agents Chris Malone and Ben Green handled the sale of Tuwinga.

Meanwhile on Friday, a Central Queensland certified organic cattle station has been sold after a deal was struck post-auction.

In May, Blue Sky Beef, listed the 18,077ha Gowan Station, located 70km south of Blackall, was listed for sale following about eight years of ownership.

At auction Gowan Station was initially passed in for $25.5 million, selling post-auction to a Taroom-based buyer for what is understood to be a higher figure.

Bidding on the day started at $17 million with three of the four registered bidders active at the auction.

Estimated to carry 3000 adult equivalents, Gowan Station last changed hands in 2016 when Consolidated Pastoral Company sold it to Blue Sky Beef, a cattle enterprise founded by Stewart and Emma Taylor with three other equal share partners.

Rural Property and Livestock agent Wally Cooper and Ray White Rural agents Bruce Douglas and Andrew Turner handled the sale of Gowan Station.

Meanwhile renowned merino producer Jim Gordon’s sheep station, Glensloy, at Young on the NSW South West Slopes, was also passed in through auction.

The prominent NSW commercial wool grower offered the grazing property for the first time since 1901, after more than 120 years of family ownership.

Negotiations are ongoing for the property post-auction with multiple parties.

In recent seasons the livestock property has conservatively carried 2000 ewes, 1500 lambs and 100 cattle, with a winter cropping program underway on 248ha of red to sandy loam soils.

Earlier this month, former Olympian Olivia Skellern (nee Bunn) and her family listed their 2029ha NSW South West Slopes property in the Eurongilly Valley for sale, following 30 years of ownership.
