ONE of Victoria’s biggest beef farms, the 31,000ha Cobungra Station, is for sale for only the third time in 100 years.
At the base of Mt Hotham near Omeo, Cobungra comprises freehold and leasehold grazing country running Wagyu, Wagyu-cross, Angus and Hereford cattle with a carrying capacity of 4000 cows.
The property is being offered on a walk-in walk-out basis, comprising 6488ha of freehold land and 24,512ha of alpine leases, all improvements, plant, machinery and the cattle herd.
Market analysts put the value of the land and improvements at $35 million-plus and livestock in excess of $10-12 million.
CBRE Agribusiness and Elders have been appointed to sell the property owned by Mark Suhr.
CBRE’s Shane McIntyre said the property offered an opportunity to acquire a historically significant beef breeding enterprise and had already attracted strong interest from local and overseas buyers.
The property sale will be subject to foreign investment rules including a public national 30-day marketing campaign.
“Cobungra Station has arguably and possibly the best full blood Wagyu genetics in Australia. Over 500 genetically superior cows, consistently produce progeny of marbling scores of 9-plus for Australia’s finest restaurants and the insatiable world market,” Mr McIntyre said.
The property includes a luxury 1200sqm five-bedroom alpine-style homestead surrounded by gardens designed by Paul Bangay.
Expression of interest closes on April 11.
