The Democrats have scored decisive victories in a series of elections across the US which were held exactly one year after Donald Trump’s presidential victory.
The party held onto the Governorship of New Jersey and flipped the Governorship of Virginia while voters in California overwhelmingly agreed to redraw the state’s electoral map to more favour Democrats after Texas did the same to bolster Republicans.
The most notable success, however, was in New York City where Zohran Mamdani, who was the official Democrat candidate but labels himself as a “Democratic Socialist,” will be the new mayor.
