US politics live: Joe Rogan fed up with Donald Trump’s ‘ridiculous’ hostility towards Canada

Podcaster Joe Rogan, whose interview with and endorsement of Donald Trump played no small role in his election win last year, has expressed exasperation with the President over his ongoing hostility towards America’s northern neighbour, Canada.

“Why are we upset at Canada?” Mr Rogan wondered on the latest episode of his podcast.

“This is stupid, this (spat) over tariffs. We have got to become friends with Canada again. This is so ridiculous.

“I can’t believe there is anti-American, anti-Canadian sentiment going on. It’s the dumbest f***ing feud. I just want America and Canada to get along, I think it’s ridiculous.

“And I don’t think they should be our 51st state.”

It’s the first time Mr Rogan has really broken with Mr Trump since his endorsement last year.

Mr Trump remains quite fixated on the “making Canada a state” thing; he’s brought it up multiple times in recent days. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office today he reiterated his dream to turn Canada and the US into “one big, beautiful land mass”.

Meanwhile a briefing with military leaders, regarding top secret plans for how America would approach a war with China (God forbid), has reportedly been scrapped after it emerged, publicly, that Elon Musk was going to attend.

Questions were raised. Why would Mr Musk even need to be there? His work with DOGE, cutting costs in the federal government, has little to do with theoretical war plans. And what about his conflicts of interest? Mr Musk has lucrative business interests in China.

Mr Trump, for his part, dismissed the intial reports that Mr Musk would attend the briefing as “ridiculous” and fake. He acknowledged, to reporters, that the billionaire was indeed “susceptible” due to his business interests.
