Donald Trump has made the surprise announcement that he will meet Russia's Vladimir Putin for a summit in the coming weeks in Budapest, Hungary.
That follows a more than two-hour phone call between the two leaders on Thursday, US time.
The aim, Mr Trump said, was “to see if we can bring this ‘inglorious’ war,” to an end.
The last time the pair met, in Alaska, little progress was made on ending the conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also met Mr Trump in Washington DC on this morning.
During the meeting he dropped an F-bomb on Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro, after the US military took two prisoners during a strike on a suspected drug boat in the Caribbean.
Asked about how Mr Maduro had “offered everything” since the strike, Trump didn’t mince words.
“He has offered everything, you’re right. You know why? Because he doesn’t want to f*** around with the United States,” the president snapped.
