Kate Middleton is known for wearing jewellery worth hundreds of thousands of dollars but the royal has showed off her frugal side with her latest accessory choice.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore a pair of $18 earrings from British online retailer, ASOS, for a royal engagement in London.

She teamed the 20mm yellow gold-plated, twist hoops with a $670 animal print dress by Derek Lam, and had her hair out in loose waves.

She completed the outfit with a pair of Ralph Lauren boots.

Kate, 40, is known for re-wearing her designer outfits, and famously mixes fashion chains like Zara and H&M with luxury labels, spanning Alexander McQueen, D&G, and Erdem.

Kate’s latest style statement came as she marked the success of a mental health service that she launched in 2019, originally involving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Along with Kate’s husband Prince William, the four royals founded the Heads Together campaign – prior to Harry and Meghan’s “Megxit” from the royal family.

Arriving solo, the Duchess of Cambridge visited the crisis support line Shout to mark the service reaching more than one million conversations with people in need.

The 40-year-old duchess met clinical supervisors, volunteers and fundraisers to thank them for their invaluable efforts to ensure that vital mental health support is available at any time of day or night.

Shout was the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s first major project with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, with the service launched following a A$5.6 million investment from the Royal Foundation in May 2019. The couples were dubbed the fab four, but Prince Harry and Meghan split from the Foundation a month later to set up their own charitable organisation before quitting as senior working royals in 2020.

Shout is the UK’s only 24/7 text messaging support service, offering free and confidential help for anyone who is struggling to cope, reports The Sun.

Since its launch in 2019, the service has taken over 1,000,000 conversations with people who are anxious, stressed, depressed, suicidal or overwhelmed and who need immediate support.

The service provides around-the-clock support from clinical supervisors and more than 2,500 trained volunteers.

Use of the platform has jumped by 140 per cent since the start of the pandemic.

Kate also met with 13-year-old scout, Leo Street, who raised A$15,000 for the service by sleeping outside in a hammock for the entirety of 2021.

“There really isn’t a big enough Scout badge for that,” Kate told the teenager.

“What you achieved is really inspiring. You must have had some impressive kit to keep warm.”

Kate also watched a live demonstration of the platform before joining a small group of Shout volunteers to hear about their experiences of helping those in distress.

They told her how they have personally benefited from taking part in the service by gaining new skills and developing a sense of purpose.

The duchess heard how the service will need even more volunteers to join its ranks to ensure that it can meet growing demand.

“Having met some of the incredible volunteers today to hear their stories and see how they facilitate conversations, it’s obvious how their empathetic approach helps people feel safe, calm and listened to,” Kate said on Twitter following the visit.

“Mental health support and resources across the UK have made significant strides over the last decade. @GiveUsAShout, through its 24/7 text messaging service, has been a huge contributor and consistent support for children, young people & adults during their most difficult times,” she added.
