Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary have appeared together for their first solo engagement amid the fallout of a furious affair denial by a glamorous socialite.

The Danish royal couple have carried out engagements with other family members, as well as the King and Queen of Spain, but this was their first public appearance as a couple, since the scandal of Prince Frederik’s night out in Madrid with Mexican socialite, Genoveva Casanova.

It comes as a body language expert declared there was apparent “tension” between the couple in the official photos shared by Copenhagen’s Royal Palace.

Body language expert Judi James claimed Princess Mary’s rigid stance suggests there is “tension”, while her pursed lips “hint at judgmental thinking”.

As for Prince Frederik, James told the Daily Mail that his crossed arms add to the “air of coolness” in the room, even though he looked more relaxed.

The royal palace shared pictures of the royals with Denmark’s climate ambassador Tomas Anker Christensen at Amalienborg Palace, Copenhagen, to Instagram on Thursday local time.

The pair met with Mr Christensen to discuss Denmark’s climate efforts ahead of COP28 in Dubai in December.

While the royal couple were seated next to each other at the meeting, there was an apparent awkwardness between them, the body language expert claimed.

“Princess Mary’s body language before all the rumours of a scandal tended to feature a very soft, warm and playful facial expression when she was with her husband, Crown Prince Frederik, which makes this subtle switch to a frostier look seem dramatic,” James said.

She said that sitting side-by-side, the royal couple showed two “very contrasting” body language states.

“Mary looks formal and tense,” Ms James alleged.

“Her slightly raised chin, tilted head and primly pursed lips hint at judgmental thinking, with her eyes on Christensen.”

And Prince Frederik appears to be either consciously or subconsciously trying to show off his wedding ring, James claimed, adding that “his crossed arms appear odd, adding to the air of coolness in the room”.

“He also has creases of what look like tension or anxiety between his brows,” she said.

And social media users pegged the apparent “frostiness”, with one person commenting: “They don’t look sparkling together as they used to.”

“Looks chilly …” said another, while a third wrote: “The elephant in the room … oh dear.”

It comes amid drama for the Danish monarchy after Prince Frederik was pictured on a night out with Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova (without his Australian-born wife) in late October.

In the photos, which were published by Spanish magazine Lecturas, the two are seen enjoying a day and evening together. They were photographed during a walk through a Madrid park, before getting into a change of clothes and heading out again for dinner after which they returned to Casanova’s apartment. Prince Fredrick was photographed leaving the apartment the following day.

The 47-year-old Casanova later issued a statement denying any kind of romantic relationship between herself and the heir to the Danish throne.

In a legal letter posted on Instagram, she slammed the “malicious” rumours suggesting the pair were romantically involved.
