‘Difficult’: Queen Mary makes emotional statement
Aussie-born royal Queen Mary has interrupted her holiday with husband King Frederik to deliver an important message.
Queen Mary of Denmark has interrupted her holiday with husband King Frederik to make an emotional statement.
The Tasmanian-born royal is currently on a break with Frederik for the European summer while her mother-in-law Queen Margrethe serves as regent in their absence.
In a statement issued through the Mary Foundation, the royal highlighted an issue close to her heart.
The organisation shared a photograph of Mary in a blue shirt and wearing her glasses, sitting at her desk.
In her message, Queen Mary appealed for people to show empathy towards those in marginalised communities.
“Summer can do something really special,” she said. “Kids splashing in the cities’ pools and at the local beach.
“School, recreational activities and clubs are typically closed. It takes more of all of us to reach out and invite others into community.”
“Bright, long evenings with the family. And the sound of happy students driving through the streets,” she continued.
Queen Mary added: “The summer reminds me seriously of the importance of community. How lovely and rewarding communities can be, but also how difficult it can be for those standing outside the community.”
The Australian royal urged her followers to reach out to those who may be feeling excluded.
“With the summer holidays, fewer formalised communities follow.
“School, recreational activities and clubs are typically closed. It takes more of all of us to reach out and invite others into community,” she said.
Queen Mary continued: “But I believe that community and sense of belonging arises when we see each other and make room for diversity in tolerant and diverse communities. I hope that summer brings presence, joy, and a sense of belonging.
“Have a great summer from us at Mary Foundation,” she signed off.
The Mary Foundation was established by the royal in 2007 to improve the lives of vulnerable women and children.
The royal previously examined the topic of loneliness in her debut podcast, Lonely Youth, released last November.
