‘What the f*** just happened?’: Alec Baldwin, Halyna Hutchins’ reactions after shooting on Rust set

Heartbreaking new details have emerged about Halyna Hutchins’ final moments, after was accidentally shot by Alec Baldwin on the set of Rust.

Alec Baldwin speaks about loss of 'friend'

Alec Baldwin reportedly shouted “what the f*ck just happened” immediately after accidentally shooting dead cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

In grim new details from 14 Rust crew members, emails and text messages, The Los Angeles Times stitched together the final moments leading up to and immediately after the fatal accident.

As Baldwin rehearsed for the gunfight scene, he practised a cross draw method as Hutchins and director Joel Souza were preparing behind the camera.

“So. I guess I’m gonna take this out, pull it and go, ‘Bang!’” he said before drawing the gun.

After the gun fired and hit Ms Hutchins in the chest and Mr Souza in the shoulder, the cast and crew slowly began to realise what happened as increasing panic set in on the set.

“What the f*ck just happened?” a shell-shocked Baldwin said repeatedly, with “growing urgency”, according to the Times.

Baldwin put the gun, a Colt .45 revolver, down on a pew in the church where the film was being shot.

“What the f*ck was that? That burns!” Souza screamed.

Baldwin repeated his question again, “like a mantra”, “What the f*ck just happened? “What the f*ck just happened?”

A boom operator looked into the eyes of Hutchins and said, “Oh, that was no good” as the cinematographer sunk into the arms of the film’s head electrician and said her last known words in response.

“No,” she replied. “That was no good. That was no good at all.” She would be pronounced dead within hours.

Someone yelled “medic!” as “shell-shocked” people rushed in amid the chaos “shrieking” and “sobbing”.

The eyewitness accounts revealed Hutchins and Souza, about half a metre (two feet) from the gun when it fired, fell to the ground instantly.

“I was looking right at her. I could see an exit wound that immediately started pouring blood, and that’s when (people screamed), ‘She’s shot!’ and everything went crazy,” a crew member, speaking on condition of anonymity, told TheTimes.

While most people spoke to the newspaper on background, two gave on-the-record interviews to corroborate much of the reporting that has come out in the days following the shooting.

Lane Luper, the A-camera first assistant, told The Times everything on the film set was determined by the schedule and the budget.

“It always felt like the budget was more important than crew members,” Mr Luper said.

The crew say there were accidental discharges on set before Hutchins was killed. One by Baldwin’s stunt double, who accidentally fired a blank. A young woman from the props department who fired a blank towards her foot, Mr Luper said.

Another camera technician, meanwhile, said Mr Baldwin was “pretty concerned about safety on set”.

“He wanted to know where I would be standing when he drew his gun,” the technician said. “I told him I was going to be standing in a different place, and he said, ‘Good.’”

Baldwin ran through blocking with the first assistant director David Halls, who pulled the gun three times from the holster without pulling the trigger.

When Baldwin rehearsed the move, the gun fired and barely missed “Russell”, a B-Cam operator the tragedy unfold from a monitor.

The film’s script supervisor Mamie Mitchell ran outside and called 911 at 1.46pm local time.

“Bonanza Creek Ranch. Two people were accidentally shot on a movie set by a prop gun. We need help immediately,” Ms Mitchell said.

HILARIA BLASTED AS ‘TONE DEAF’

It came as Baldwin’s wife Hilaria was accused of being “tone deaf” by posting about the family’s Halloween celebrations.

“Parenting through this has been an intense experience, to say the least,” Hilaria wrote on Instagram, where she posted a series of photos of her, Baldwin and their six children dressed up.

“Today, we rallied to give them a holiday,” Hilaria said under the images of the family, dressed as characters from Where the Wild Things Are.

“Last min costumes … a little hodge-podge … but they were so happy and that warmed my mama heart,” she added.

“Happy Halloween, from the Baldwinitos,” she wrote.

Hilaria’s post was flooded with comments accusing her of being “inappropriate” in the wake of Baldwin’s on-set tragedy.

“This is so inappropriate and tone-deaf. Absolutely breathtaking in disrespect,” one follower wrote on Twitter.

Per the New York Post, another tweeted: “How nice for them. I doubt Halyna’s 9yr old son celebrated Halloween this year”.

Another follower called the post “disgusting,” adding, “What is wrong with #AlecBaldwin???

“He had some nerve to put on a #costume and take pictures with his sensitivity #Halloween.
