RAINFALL over Uluru has given a few lucky travellers a spectacular sight.
The iconic red rock, often pictured against a stunning blue sky, proved it’s beauty is only enhanced when the elements take hold as the rain fell yesterday.
Centralian photographer Kartikeya Sharma said it was a special sight and he hurried to find a good spot to capture the beauty of the rain flowing over the drenched rock.
“It was really special and really beautiful,” he said.
“I’ve lived here for four yeas and never really got the chance to see it but it’s something I’ve heard about and really wanted to see.”
“There were lots of tourists there all talking about it with kids jumping up and down saying how amazing it was.”
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Hatem Ibrahim said Yulara, the area near Uluru, saw 9.6mm of rain On Saturday and could expect cloudy conditions for the next few days.
“There’s a mid level trough with a cloud band moving from Western Australia to the south of the NT and over South Australia to New South Wales.
“There’s a possibility of rain but most of the rain will happen in the south.”
The odd weather conditions have been spotted all across the Territory, with Top End residents confused by the cloudy Dry season skies.
Mr Ibrahim said it was fairly dry throughout the day on Saturday and most of the rain was expected Saturday night and Sunday.
“There’s an easterly wave moving east with the trough over the Arafura Sea will enhance thunderstorm and rain activity today and Monday,” he said,
Dryer conditions can be expected in the Top End on Tuesday as a southerly change will push through Alice Springs on Monday.
