Snow and rain forecast for Adelaide Hills

SNOW has been forecast for the Adelaide Hills and the mid north of South Australia as severe weather moves across the state.

SNOW has been forecast for the Adelaide Hills and South Australia’s mid-north as severe weather moves across the state.

Up to 80mm of rain is also expected in the hills by this afternoon, with flooding a possibility.

The Bureau of Meteorology says very cold conditions are forecast for southern parts of the state with Adelaide tipped to have a top of just 11C.

Wind gusts in excess of 90km/h are also possible, prompting a severe weather warning for the Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, the Mt Lofty Ranges and the South East.

Yesterday, a 71-year-old man was killed when he was crushed by a falling tree at Tungkillo, in the Adelaide Hills.

Strong winds on Sunday night and into yesterday brought down dozens of trees, some onto parked cars and buildings, others across roads. Thousands of properties were also left without power and SA Power Networks said some could expect a lengthy period before services were restored.
