MUCH of western Victoria has missed out on forecast totals from today’s much anticipated spring finishing rains.

With a furious storm still lashing Adelaide, there are hopes there is more good rain to come later today.

As predicted by the Bureau of Meteorology, Horsham has done well from the afternoon rains with falls of between 12-13mm.

Mildura has received 5mm, Swan Hill 4mm, Edenhope and Stawell 6mm.

But there has been little rain at all so far in other grain growing regions.

Kerang had no rain up until 3pm, Charlton just 0.6mm.

A Bureau of Meteorology spokesman said the bulk of the rain, which growers had hoped would top 20mm for the day, will fall today.

Walpeup received 3mm overnight as the rain arrived from the west.

Beulah had 2mm, Hopetoun 3mm and Woomelang 2mm in the early overnight rain.

Nhill also received 3mm before 9am and Goroke had a welcome 5mm as well.

Horsham has had 3mm since 9am today, Ouyen has had 0.8mm as the weather system starts to arrive.

Casterton has had 0.4mm also today although the bureau does not expect the better rain totals will reach far south.

There has not yet been any substantial rain in the Riverina.

The Weekly Times will follow the progress of the rain today and update totals.
