WIDESPREAD rain is tipped to bring the weather break to the season and the beginning of the end of the drought.

Many people have high hopes riding on widespread rain forecast to arrive across the west of Victoria tomorrow afternoon.

The Bureau of Meteorology is still predicting falls of more than 15mm in most areas and huge totals of more than 100mm are possible in the state’s North East.

Expert predictions for the size of the falls have firmed as the weekend approachers with the rain expected to reach right up to the Northern Territory.

Falls of up to 60mm are tipped for Central Australia.

Last weekend’s rain has helped wet the catchment areas of the Murray Basin storages, which would benefit the most from a big dump.

Likewise, farm dams in central Victoria started filling last week with totals across two days of about 40mm.

Rain is forecast to continue across Victoria right through to Tuesday.
