PARTS of the Wimmera could receive up to 20mm this week as a predicted band of rain moves across Victoria.

But the rain is not likely to widespread and farmers should not get their hopes up too much, Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Peter Newham said.

The Bureau has forecast up to 10mm for the Wimmera and South West on Friday, and up to 5mm of rain for the Mallee as a low-pressure complex slowly moves across the state.

“There is a low slowly approaching from the west and it will move across on Friday,” Mr Newham said.

“From Thursday to Monday and Tuesday next week the western parts of the state could get 20mm.

“The Northern parts of Wimmera and Mallee could get 10mm, but it’s a bit more touch and go for that region.”

He said there was potential for showers for up to four days in a row but “there was no certainty” of that.
