SPRING Street’s plan for farming in the coming decade will be revealed by the Victorian Agriculture Minister today.

Jaclyn Symes is set to release the government prospectus — Strong, Innovative, Sustainable: A New Strategy for Agriculture in Victoria — in Maffra.

Ms Symes said the strategy outlines 14 government commitments, including a pledge to strengthen local supply chains and manufacturing jobs as well as increasing access to agricultural technology and research.

“Many farmers and growers are showing that it is vital to the future of agriculture to adopt new ways of doing things to gain a competitive advantage and set themselves up for the future,” Ms Symes said.

“This strategy provides certainty and leadership for Victorian agriculture. It’s an exciting chance to set our sector up for a strong future – I look forward to working with industry and communities to deliver this important work.”

Today’s ministerial visit will outline how agricultural funding in last month’s state budget will be spent, with $30 million to extend the Agricultural Energy Investment Plan.

Ms Symes is scheduled to visit a Maffra farm that has installed solar technology under the first round of the renewable energy fund.
