Victorian animal activist inquiry: Submissions now open to public
The public can now submit their thoughts to the Inquiry into the Impact of Animal Rights Activism on Victorian Agriculture. Here’s how.
SUBMISSIONS are now open for the Inquiry into the Impact of Animal Rights Activism on Victorian Agriculture.
The National Party put forward the motion for the inquiry last month stating “enough is enough” after The Weekly Times revealed an activist was fined $1 for breaking biosecurity laws.
It passed in Victoria’s Upper House on May 1.
All Victorians are invited to submit their thoughts on the effectiveness of current legislation, potential biosecurity risks and other impacts of animal activist activity on farms.
As well as looking into these areas, the inquiry committee will compare responses to animal activism in other jurisdictions across the globe.
Public submissions will close on August 2 and the committee will report their findings November 28.
The committee is required to make recommendations to the Victorian Government on how it could “improve protections for farmers’ privacy, businesses, and the integrity of the state’s biosecurity system and animal welfare outcomes, whether through law reform or other measures”.
Controversial activist group Aussie Farms’ director Chris Delforce recently told The Weekly Times he would be making submission and was sure other activist groups would too.
