Police say a Shepparton funeral believed to be held for a well-known local footballer did not breach Covid restrictions.

Officers this week investigated the event, which was believed to have taken place amid the town’s Covid outbreak, and found no breach had occurred at the 50-guest service.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said: “Shepparton police received a report about a potential CHO breach at a funeral in Shepparton on August 11”.

“This report was received days after the event and has been investigated with no breach detected.”

Adrian Meka’s funeral was held on August 11 when services were capped at 50 mourners.

Questions had been raised about the number of people who attended outside the venue.

On Monday, Premier Daniel Andrews had encouraged people “not jump to conclusions”.

“I don’t know that any such events occurred, I don’t know what the circumstances of it were if it did,” he said.

Meka was a well-loved footballer from Shepparton, who played for Lancaster and Shepparton Swans.
