Playford family helping raise money for Good Friday Appeal

After their son spent months in the Royal Children’s Hospital with a heart condition, the Playfords have dedicated their time to raising money for the cause.

A RIVERINA family will be walking around their 200-hectare farm as a way of giving back to a cause that gave so much to them.

Marc and Alexandra Playford, from Coreen, are raising money for their son Benjamin, who was born with a heart condition and spent six months in the Royal Children’s hospital.

As part of the virtual Run For The Kids fundraiser, the Playfords will be participating in 90 minutes of activity over the six days from March 28 to April 2.

Mr Playford said they had been involved in fundraising for the Good Friday Appeal for five years and despite being restricted by coronavirus this year would be no exception.

“It’s a cause very close to us obviously,” he said.

“We go down to Melbourne every year for the run normally and make a trip out of it.”

The family has already raised more than $1000 for the virtual run alone, and are holding two separate events in the lead up to Good Friday for the Royal Children’s Hospital.

“My mum and my wife are on the committee for the Corowa Good Friday appeal so they raise money throughout the year,” Mr Playford said.

Hosted by the Herald Sun and Transurban, this year’s Run for the Kids will be held over two events, with the virtual component kicking off next week.

The in-person and on-road running festival will be held in August, coronavirus restrictions permitting.
