Kate Stewart and Anthony Morabito’s perfectly-timed escape to the country

Is this the best-timed escape to the country ever? Kate Stewart and Anthony Morabito managed to move to their farm in Mia Mia before coronavirus lockdowns hit Melbourne.

MEGAN Stewart and Anthony Morabito could not have timed their treechange to Mia Mia any better.

It was a whirlwind few months for the couple before coronavirus hit, settling on the Central Victorian property last October, getting married in December and moving from Melbourne in mid-February, it worked out well.

“I feel pretty fortunate for our timing,” Ms Stewart said.

Both have settled into the country life, and have been spending plenty of time at the property after their respective jobs moved to remote work.

“It’s a pretty nice place to work from home. The only problem is looking out the window and seeing all the jobs we have to do,” Mr Morabito said.

And some of these on-farm jobs, including gardening and picking olives from their grove have come as an “eye-opener” for the city couple.

“We definitely never had to deal with a ride-on mower,” Ms Stewart said.

“We’ve also gone from zero whipper snippers to four whipper snippers.”

The couple are looking forward to immersing themselves even further in the community and eventually become full-time farmers.

“Everyone is so welcoming and loves a chat.

“It’s nice that we’re not far away from anyone and feel like we’re apart of a community — which will be even better once we can get out and get amongst it,” Mr Morabito said.

“The dream is to be able to work on the farm full time but that’s not feasible right now.”
