Kangaroo harvesting resumes across most of Victoria
The Andrews Government has backed down on halting the roo harvest.
KANGAROO harvesting has resumed across central and western Victoria, after an outcry from the state’s 51 professional roo shooters and the pet food processing sector.
The Andrews Government halted harvesting early last month in response to this summer’s bushfires, which drew an angry response from shooters, who argued just 5 per cent of the state had been burnt.
Agriculture Victoria finally responded this week by quietly amending its website, stating: “The kangaroo harvesting program has resumed in most zones”.

Professional shooters can now begin harvesting in central Victoria, the Otways, Lower Wimmera, Upper Wimmera and Mallee.
However harvesting remains on hold in North East Victoria and Gippsland.
“All quota application requests for the North East and Gippsland harvest zones will remain on hold until there is a further analysis of the impact of the fires on Eastern Grey kangaroos in these areas,” Agriculture Victoria reported.
“Quota applications in these harvest zones can still be submitted, but these will not be approved until further notice.”
