CVLX saleyards at Miners Rest on notice for bad smell again
ODOUR issues continue to dog the new Ballarat saleyards at Miners Rest as the Environment Protection Authority has again acted on complaints from nearby residents.
ODOUR issues continue to dog the new Ballarat saleyards at Miners Rest as the Environment Protection Authority has again acted on complaints from nearby residents.
Yesterday, the EPA issued a new remedial notice to the owners of the facility, following, it says, ongoing reports of wafting odours.
It is the second notice the Central Victorian Livestock Exchange has received since it opened late last year.
SALEYARDS GIVEN CLEAN UP DEADLINE
EPA South West regional manager Carolyn Francis said the notice followed one issued in October 2018 requiring CVLX to improve its cleaning methods.
“The company complied with the requirements of that notice and it was subsequently revoked,” she said.
“The new notice deals with odour assessment; and requires that modelling be updated to use actual measured odour emission rates from this site, obtained during the commissioning period.
“The measured site odour emission rates are noticeably higher than the estimates used in the 2016 assessment and the modelling will indicate how much the emission rates may contribute to off-site odours.”
RESIDENTS OBJECT TO SALEYARD STENCH
The new notice required CVLX to supply the EPA with an updated odour impact assessment by June 17.
Ms Francis said the EPA encouraged Miners Rest residents to report offensive odours on 1300 372 842.
CVLX has been contacted for comment.
