THERE have been 1199 cases of coronavirus confirmed in regional Victoria. None of those remain active.
Currently, there are 80 active cases across the state.
Victoria has recorded two new cases of coronavirus, with the total number of cases now at 20,342. 19,376 people have recovered from the virus.
There have been two new deaths from coronavirus reported: a man aged in his 70s and a man aged in his 80s.
Both deaths are historic cases that have now been linked to coronavirus. One death occurred on September 6 and the other was on October 7. Both are also linked to aged care outbreaks. To date, 819 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria.
The rolling daily average case number for regional Victoria is zero.
Metropolitan Melbourne’s is 2.7. The rolling daily average case number is calculated by averaging the number of new cases over the past 14 days.
The total number of cases from an unknown source in the 14 days to October 25 is zero for regional Victoria and three for metropolitan Melbourne and zero from regional Victoria. The 14-day period for the source of acquisition data ends 48 hours earlier than the 14-day period used to calculate the new case average due to the time required to fully investigate a case and assign its mode of acquisition.
Three people with the virus are in hospital, but there are no cases in intensive care.
A total of 3,106,653 test results have been received in Victoria.
TESTING URGED IN ARARAT
Ararat residents are being urged to get tested even with the mildest of symptoms after viral fragments were found in untreated wastewater samples.
Evidence of the virus has also been detected in Colac, Gisborne, Kilmore and Shepparton where there are known residents with recent infections.
Victorian Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said the result in Ararat was unexpected as there had been no known cases in the area for months, but it doesn’t necessarily mean residents are infected.
“Wastewater testing may indicate there are undiagnosed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Ararat and we are erring on the side of caution by increasing the availability of testing in the area,” Professor Sutton said.
Victoria is in a State of Disaster.
Regional Victorians have regained some freedom, with coronavirus restrictions eased to step three on the Andrews Government’s road map out of lockdown.
Metropolitan Melbourne has taken the third step away from stage four restrictions towards “COVID Normal”.
A number of ag companies, including at least 14 meat processors, have been hit by the virus since July.
Face masks or coverings are mandatory across the state, “whenever you leave home”.
Mr Andrews told The Weekly Times workers and other outside visitors to Victorian farms must wear masks, while solo farmers and on-farm family members can be mask free.
