Coronavirus detected in Victorian poultry plant worker
A Victorian poultry processing plant has recorded a coronavirus case, with a worker testing positive.
A WORKER has tested positive to coronavirus at a Victorian poultry processing plant.
The Weekly Times can reveal there is currently one case at an unnamed facility.
Testing and contact tracing is underway, and the facility is undergoing daily disinfecting and weekly deep cleaning.
The Weekly Times understands no animals are killed on site at the facility and that it is an operation that processes chicken meat.
Agriculture Victoria does not believe the case will affect availability of chicken meat to consumers and there is no concerns about the virus being transmitted through food or packaging.
The Weekly Times is seeking information from the Department of Health about the location of the plant, when the worker tested positive and whether there is any relation to the coronavirus outbreak at Melbourne abattoir Cedar Meats.
At least 90 people associated with Cedar Meats have now tested positive for coronavirus.
Of the 90 cases, 64 are staff and 26 are close and household contacts.
