A young Lancefield motocross star will be taking on the world next month, testing his motorbike mettle against the very best.

Ten-year-old Mason Ezergailis has been selected to represent Australia at the FIM Junior Motocross World Championships in the Netherlands from July 12-14.

One of six Australian riders selected to make the journey, Mason will compete in the 65cc class alongside another Victorian, 11-year-old Lewis-Jay Carafa, with 200 riders from close to 30 countries descending on the town of Heerde, about 80km east of Amsterdam.

Mason has been riding since 18-months-old, and is one of six Australian riders selected to make the journey.

Having been riding from as young as 18-months-old, Mason has been rewarded for competing and winning in events across the country, currently sitting third in the Penrite ProMX Championship.

“Jumps and corners”, the competition, and the opportunity to do his best are his favourite parts of the sport, and it is his first time being selected for such a high-profile event.

“It was a goal for (Mason) to make it to the champs, so we were pretty pumped that’s for sure,” proud dad Karlis said.

“He’s raced in America and New Zealand a couple of times, but this (is the first time) he’s been selected to go on a trip like this … the first big one in Europe.”

Supported by Karlis, his mother Amy and younger brother Will, the Ezergailis family have set up two raffles to raise money to fund Mason’s trip.

“One is motor-cross related, and we’ve probably got about $7000 worth of riding gear, accessories and motor-cross related prizes,” he said.

You can support Mason by buying raffle tickets here and here, with entries to close on June 30 and July 10 respectively.
