Tony Hansen selling lifetime vintage collection at Wedderburn
A lifetime collection of old farm machinery and rare automobiles worth tens of thousands of dollars will be up for sale next week in Victoria’s Mallee.
Hundreds of relics of the pioneering past will be up for sale at Wedderburn next week, with local identity Tony Hansen selling his lifetime collection of old farm machinery and rare automobiles.
A scrap metal dealer and second hand buyer for more than 30 years, Mr Hansen is semi-retiring, and will be selling a collection worth tens of thousands of dollars, with some items worth that in themselves.
Of the 575 lots available, auctioneer Martin Evans said the standout in the auto selection was the “very unique” Plymouth Sedan, circa early 1930s, as well as a Ransomes buck rake.
“I’ve sold machinery for 30 or 40 years myself, and it’s the most complete one I’ve ever seen. It’s got tags and everything still on it, and it’s probably 100 years old,” he said.
“It’s one of those sales where (Hansen) is not sad, he’s reluctant to sell it all, but you can’t keep everything. I mean there’s 100 wheels there, how many can you keep?”
With online pre-bidding already open for the selection, Mr Evans said they’ve seen interest from local and overseas buyers.
“We’ve got such a large database, so we sell a lot of stuff to the UK and America and a bit to New Zealand … some of these trucks, vehicles, wheels, and bits and pieces just aren’t available to people (in their part of the) world,” he said.
“People want to put stuff in their man or woman cave … there’s special bits and pieces among this that people will cherish I’m sure.”
Public inspection of the lot is available from 2-4pm on May 16 at Wedderburn, with the online live auction commencing at 10am on May 18 at meauctionsonline.com.au.
