THE best of Australian farming will be celebrated tonight at The Weekly Times Coles 2016 Farmer of the Year Awards.
Eighteen of Australia’s most innovative farmers will be recognised at a gala event at RACV Club in Melbourne from 6pm.
The finalists are vying for awards across six categories — cropping, beef, dairy, horticulture, sheep and FARM magazine Innovative Farmer of the Year.
The winner of one of these categories will be crowned The Weekly Times Coles 2016 Farmer of the Year.
Each category winner will receive $5000, with the Farmer of the Year receiving $10,000 cash.
The event will be attended by the Victorian Minister for Agriculture and Regional Development Jaala Pulford, federal Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources Anne Ruston and industry leaders.
The 2015 Farmer of the Year, Grant Sims, will be attending and sharing his experience as last year’s winner.
