The popular Jatbula Trail season opens for bookings at 9am on February 4, with Territorians encouraged to purchase their tickets quickly before they run out.

The Jatbula Trail is a 62km one-way walk departing from Nitmiluk Gorge and finishing at Leliyn, also known as Edith Falls.

The hike follows the western edge of the Arnhem Land escarpment – a long, steep slope – over sandstone plateau and through woodlands, open forest, monsoon forest and riverine landscapes.

The trail is named after Jawoyn Traditional Owner, Peter Jatbula, an instrumental figure in securing land rights for the Jawoyn people.

In 2025, the walking season will be held between from June to September, with the shoulder season from April to May.

The trail can be completed in five days and four nights, or six days and five nights.

Eager hikers who log in to purchase tickets prior to bookings opening – 9am on February 4 – will need to refresh their browsers, as the page won’t automatically update.

Parks and Wildlife NT encourage Territorians to check they have a current account with a working password prior to the opening time.

Jatbula trail, Iconic Walks

According to the NT government website, hikers will need to be “reasonably fit” with some bushwalking experience as the trail – a grade four track rated as moderate to difficult – involves carrying heavy loads over rough ground.

In years past, tickets for the trail have sold out in mere minutes.
