A woman has been arrested after a car struck a child at Hendon on Monday.
A 13-year-old girl was left with a broken pelvis and lacerations to her head and leg after a driver allegedly mounted a median strip and rammed the teen, before disappearing.
On Tuesday, the vehicle was identified as a MG SUV and was located in Seaton with damage to the headlight and mirror.
The driver – a 68-year-old woman – was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, due care and fail to report collision.
The girl had crossed from the eastern side of West Lakes Boulevard in Hendon and was standing on the median strip waiting for traffic to pass, about 4.30pm on Monday.
The 13-year-old year 9 student told Nine News Adelaide she had hopped off a bus and was just metres from her home.
“All I remember is the car hitting me and I went bang and I fell so I couldn’t see anything,” she told 9News.
“I was just in shock. I was like, is this a dream?”
She was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Police say while the female driver briefly stopped after the crash, she fled the scene shortly after without helping the injured girl.
Police are seeking witnesses who may have dashcam or CCTV footage.
