Adelaide hills mother Carly Atkinson was travelling behind the truck with her daughter in the back seat told 7NEWS she saw an opportunity to act when the truck stopped at an intersection.

“I needed to stop this person from killing someone,” she said to 7NEWS.

I got to the truck and asked if he was ok,” she said.

“He said ‘I’m just a little lost’ so I asked him to turn the truck off so I could hear him properly.

“As soon as he turned the truck off, I told him he was driving dangerously, and he needed to hand me the keys.”

Atkinson explained to 7NEWS she then reached in and confiscated the truck driver’s keys.

The dashcam footage was posted online with comments critical of how a B-double came to be on a route restricted for such trucks.

“Lucky they didn’t take anyone out,” one posted.

“It’s lucky he didn’t drop off the edge on a bend going up through there, it’s that winding and tight cars find it tight in some spots, that would be an absolute nightmare in a B-double … can’t they see the signs saying no trucks,” another commented.

In South Australia, B-doubles are primarily restricted to a designated 26m B-double network.
