The Wiggles concert is touring the country - here’s a survival guide

The Wiggles are touring the nation for their latest concert — and Lachy Gillespie, aka the purple Wiggle, has offered his advice on what to expect, and how to survive, the hour-long spectacular.

The Wiggles join the line-up of Tamworth Music Festival

It’s a rock concert like no other – where there’s enthusiastic cheers mixed with spontaneous tears, and more than a few audience members will likely pee their pants, while others may demand a halftime nap.

It is, of course, The Wiggles concert.

Parents who have braved a Wiggles show before will no doubt be armed (with snacks) and ready, but for the uninitiated, Lachy Gillespie – otherwise known as the Purple Wiggle … well, one of the purple Wiggles – is here to help.

In the lead-up to the great eight’s arrival in our city this weekend, Lachy has provided some helpful tips on what to expect and how to survive the hour-long Wiggly extravaganza.

First up, preparation is the key, Lachy says – and this starts with clothing.

Stretchy and comfortable is best. And don’t forget enclosed shoes. Nobody wants their feet trampled while busting a move to Rattlin’ Bog.

“If you want to dress up in your favourite colour, we absolutely love home made dress ups,” Lachy says.

“There’s lots of ballerinas and tutus, lots of people have the Wags ears or the Dorothy tail, whatever you like.

“We also totally understand that if children do need to (wear ear muffs) just to take that little bit of an edge off if it is a bit loud.”

Lachy says a Dorothy the Dinosaur tail can be a good look.

Unlike at other concerts, Wiggles audience members are encouraged to smuggle in their own snacks.

“It’s always good to have snacks and water,” Lachy says.

“Anything that’s easy to put in a little container, a little sandwich to fill up on.”

And if motivation abounds, bring along a homemade sign. The Wiggles head out into the crowd during the show to collect signs, and they even read some out on stage.

“On the weekend, one (sign) literally said, very simply, ‘We’re just here for the tree’ which made us feel really good,” Lachy laughed, referring to The Tree of Wisdom, whose exhilarating dance moves have made it become a fan favourite in recent times.

“Some people bring roses for Dorothy the Dinosaur. People have brought real beef bones for Wags the Dog, which is quite fun. And Captain Feathersword gets lots of things as well.”

While some of the Wiggles’ iconic choreography can turn a crowd into a mosh pit, Lachy has some great advice to help people stay safe when executing some of the traditionally bigger moves.

“Do the Propeller, you might have to have a smaller plane, a little bit of a smaller wingspan,” he says.

“The whirly bird – that can be problematic.”

And just in case anyone wants to brush up on the routines ahead of showtime, Lachy says Hot Potato and Do the Propeller are among the songs the group will be performing during the jam-packed spectacle.

The Wiggle and Learn Big Show will be touring Australia throughout November and December.
