The boundaries for the city’s new suburb of Southwark have officially been confirmed.

The newly defined suburb, spanning over 26 hectares, will incorporate the former West End Brewery site and extend into selected residential and commercial zones.

It will be bordered by the River Torrens to the north and Port Rd to the east, with the boundaries stretching from Stirling to Anderson streets, and following Cawthorne St south to Light Terrace.

Southwark will keep the postcode 5031 – a nod to its rich heritage, including being the first section of suburban land surveyed outside the City of Adelaide.

Urban Development Minister Nick Champion said Southwark’s boundary confirmation is the next step to creating the “thriving, connected inner-city community”.

“It reflects our commitment to honouring the past while building a vibrant future for generations to come,” Mr Champion said.

“Bringing back Southwark is about more than just new housing – it’s about creating a place where people want to live, work and play.”

The boundary decision came after an extensive and careful consultation period, with the community, stakeholders and affected residents and businesses.

The project that’s part of the state government’s ‘Southwark Ground’ initiatives,

hopes to revamp the former West End Brewery site into a lively mixed-use urban community.

Once completed, up to 1,300 new homes will be built alongside retail, commercial, hospitality and community spaces.
