South Aussies are divided as Australia’s only Cybertruck is spotted in Adelaide
It’s a truck, it’s sports car and it has completely divided the people of Adelaide. Have you spotted Australia’s only Tesla’s Cybertruck on our streets?
It’s a truck, it’s sports car and it has completely divided the people of Adelaide.
The only Tesla Cybertruck in Australia was spotted this week being towed along Sir Donald Bradman Drive at Hilton ahead of its appearance in the Bay to Birdwood car rally this Sunday.
Images uploaded to social media were quickly flooded with comments on the ultra futuristic-looking vehicle, which has divided public opinion since it was unveiled in 2023.
Comprising of an angular body with flat sheet metal panels made of stainless steel, people either seemed to love – or hate – the bulletproof design.
“That’s hideous,” commented one user.
“We had one delivered to my office this morning,” posted another alongside a picture of a skip bin.
But others praised the design.
“Love it … want one,” said one user.
“Sickest car ever,” commented another.
Despite Tesla previously opening the order books for Aussies to put down deposits, the vehicle as we know it will likely be an America-only model.
In its current configuration, the Cybertruck only meets North American regulations with Tesla CEO Elon Musk telling investors designing it for global sale would make it “worse”.
“We did design the car to North American requirements, because if you start going with the superset of international requirements, it forces a lot of constraints on the Cybertruck that would make the product frankly worse,” he said in June.
If you would like a first-hand look at the Cybertruck, the Bay to Birdwood car rally will kick off from Barratt Reserve, headed to the National Motor Museum in Birdwood, this Sunday, October 20, from 8.15am.
