Dust Storm Turns South Australian Town Orange

A town in the state’s Mid North region has been left without fuel, sparking a warning to motorists ahead of the long weekend.

Pro Motors, the only petrol station in Orroroo, about 275km north of Adelaide, has no fuel supply, an employee of the petrol station confirmed.

The employee declined to provide any information about what caused the issue and when it’s expected to return.

Travellers passing through the town over the long weekend are being urged by people and businesses in the area to refuel at nearby towns.

“There is NO FUEL here though and won’t be for a long time in my opinion,” a member of a travellers’ group wrote.

“Apparently there is a hole in the fuel tank which has left the town without any fuel at all.”

A camping business located about 50km north of Orroroo also shared that “there is no fuel available in Orroroo” and urged motorists to refuel at Jamestown, Peterborough, Carrieton and Hawker.

A local tourism group shared that the town has been affected by the “severe drought” with the lack of fuel now adding more pressure to the region.

“Our community is struggling and now unfortunately we have no fuel available until further notice due to an equipment failure,” they wrote.

“Just another thing to deal with but our resilient town remains open to welcome you.

“All businesses are stocked up for all your needs and with the cool weather forecasted over this long weekend, come browse our cosy shops and grab a coffee and something to eat to satisfy your needs, it would be so appreciated by all, thank you in advance, every little bit helps.”
