A man accused of killing a good Samaritan by throwing a television at his head will remain behind bars on remand for at least four months, as prosecutors work through a large volume of evidence.

Scott Danny Malcolm France, of Gilberton, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday via video charged over the death of 65-year-old William ‘Bill’ Brassil in August last year.

Mr France, 30, is yet to enter any pleas to one count of manslaughter, two counts of aggravated assault that causes harm and one count of aggravated cause harm with intent.

Prosecutors asked the court for a 16-week adjournment to enable them to sift through triple-0 calls, CCTV and statements from Mr Brassil’s GP.

“There are also 10 police officers yet to provide statements (and) some statements from civilians,” they said.

“ … a statement from the deceased’s GP and doctor from the QEH in relation to his heart disease and previous appointments.”

It is alleged Mr France had been arguing with his ex about 8pm on August 29.

She told police he began shouting at her before she left the address to seek help.

“She stopped outside (Mr Brassil’s home) and spoke to him. He asked if she was okay,” prosecutors previously alleged.

“She asked him to call police as (the man) was screaming at her. She states she observed the accused advancing towards her, so she jumped over the fence and into the victim’s front yard.

“The male appeared carrying a black television screen in both hands. He then walked along the fence line and threw it at (Mr) Brassil.”

Prosecutors allege CCTV vision, captured at the property, shows the man throwing both the television and a paver at Mr Brassil’s head.

On Thursday, Magistrate Justin Wickens granted the adjournment and remanded Mr France in custody to answer his charges in September.
