A 40-year-old man was stabbed in his own home on a quiet suburban inner north street late on Friday night with an alleged offender arrested by police the next day.

Stabbed in his own home, man rushed to hospital

A 40-year-old man is fighting for life in Royal Adelaide Hospital after he was stabbed in his own home.

SA Police said they responded to reports a man had been stabbed on Charles St, Prospect at 11.50pm on Friday night.

He was rushed to hospital with “life-threatening injuries” and is in a serious but stable condition as of 2.30pm on Saturday, according to police.

Police said they arrested a 40-year-old man — also from Prospect — about 1.30pm on Saturday after he handed himself in to Holden Hill Police Station.

The alleged offender is believed to be known to the victim, with police confirming they are no longer looking for any more suspects.

The alleged offender is expected to be charged with aggravated assault and refused bail, a police spokesperson said.

He will face Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.

Shocked residents of the quiet suburban street awoke on Saturday morning to detectives scouring the scene.

A trail of blood spread from the victim’s home on Charles St, past a playground and up Princes St.

Local resident Vid has live in the area for 50 years, telling The Advertiser there’s “no trouble here”.

“It’s quiet all time — I’m quite surprised,” he said.

The next door neighbour of the victim said he heard a door slamming at 10pm and his son also reported a noise at 10.30pm.

“This is a safe community,” he said.
