Port Lincoln’s popular Tunarama Festival will make a grand comeback next year, with locals buzzing with excitement after the organisers had earlier announced it would be canned for good in 2023.

On Tuesday, Port Lincoln council announced the long-awaited return of the festival.

Since 1962, the festival grew to become the state’s largest regional community event, becoming an annual fixture every January.

The three-day festival will kick off on January 16 and feature its legendary events, including the popular Tuna Toss, a lively street parade and a dazzling fireworks extravaganza.

The festival will also shine a spotlight on Port Lincoln’s exceptional seafood heritage, which saw it dubbed the seafood capital of Australia.

Mayor Diana Mislov said the return is “an exciting moment for the community”, which has cherished the festival for showcasing the region’s “unique identity”.

“Our incredible seafood industry, our diverse multicultural community, and our rich local produce, we’re creating an event that not only honours our past but also looks boldly to the future,” Ms Mislov said.

Council entrusted event management company SRO Events to bring a fresh new feel that makes up for lost time and highlights “the authentic spirit of Port Lincoln”.

Members of the public are also invited to join the festivals planning committee, Tunarama Reference Group, to help shape and develop the popular festival.

Visit the council website to fill in an expression of interest before 10am on Monday, May 5.

On July 13, 2023, announced they would be wrapping up the festival after its 60th year.
