Man, teen arrested following alleged arson fire incidents across Adelaide

A man has been charged for allegedly starting several fires in Adelaide’s north that threatened homes overnight.

An Elizabeth Downs man has been arrested after allegedly starting several fires that posed a threat to nearby homes in Adelaide’s north overnight.

Emergency services received several reports of fires at Elizabeth South between 3.20am and 3.40am

Police said a total of six fires were lit between Philip Highway and Goodman Road.

No one was injured but three of the fires were “rubbish items” set alight that threatened nearby homes.

Northern District patrols spotted a recently lit fire around Goodman Road and when police searched the area, they found a man walking from Goodman Road.

They searched the 54-year-old and discovered he has a lighter.

Following the an investigation they arrested the man.

Northern District Detectives are speaking with the man and police say he is “likely to be charged with arson”.

In a separate incident, a Seaford Rise teenager has been arrested after he allegedly set an industrial bin at a southern suburbs shopping centre alight in the early hours of Sunday.

Police and fire crews responded to reports of a fire at a shopping centre on Grand Boulevard at Seaford just before 1am.

MFS crews extinguished the fire, which was fortunately contained to the bin.

“A witness saw the suspect allegedly light the fire and detained the youth until police arrived on scene,” police said.

The teen was arrested and charged with property damage by fire. He was granted police bail and is expected to appear in Christies Beach Youth Court in March.

After investigating links to another two industrial bin fires on Friday, police further charged the youth with a second count of property damage by fire.
