Labor MP Tung Ngo shares tragic news of daughter Renee Ngo’s death
A Labor MP has shared devastating news of a family death.
The daughter of a South Australian Labor MP has tragically died of cancer at the age of 27.
Renee Khanh Thy Ngo, a registered nurse and daughter of MLC Tung Ngo was diagnosed with leukemia only around four months ago.
On Sunday, Mr Ngo shared the devastating news of his daughter’s passing on social media after her condition “suddenly worsened”.
“It hurts me so much to tell you all that my first child, my daughter, Renee, got leukemia about four months ago. Unexpectedly, her conditions suddenly worsened last week,” he wrote.
“Yesterday, Saturday, 26th October 2024 - Renee peacefully passed away at 5.53am in Canberra. She was only 27 years young.”
“Everyone (even her friends who I recently met) said Renee was very much a mini or clone version of me from her looks, sense of humour and being kind with her friends. My family, Renee’s friends and I are in shock. Life is so unfair.”
Colleagues and friends have paid their condolences to Mr Ngo and his family, including Premier Peter Malinauskas and Labor MP Olivia Savvas.
“I’m so sorry for your loss Tung. My thoughts are with you and your family,” Mr Malinauskas wrote on Facebook.
Ms Savvas wrote “thinking of you and your family, Tung.”
In June, after a “sudden leukaemia diagnosis”, Ms Ngo’s colleagues set up a fund to help support her while she underwent treatment.
“Renee is a registered nurse who spends her time caring for others and providing them with love and support during their most vulnerable times,” GoFundMe organiser Cassie McGrath wrote.
“This fund has been created by her colleagues; in the hopes we can provide this same support whilst she goes through treatment.”
In July, Ms McGrath posted an update, saying Ms Ngo was “in high spirits and doing well”.
“She is forever grateful for the kind and generous people who have supported her!” she wrote.
The fundraiser exceeded its $7000 goal, with more than $10,200 donated to help Ms Ngo.
Ms Ngo’s funeral will be held next month.
