Kimberley Hudson who was jailed over Goodwood car crash axe rage awaits fate for fresh assaults
A mum-of-seven who wielded an axe at police has faced court again for horrific attacks on employees, including concussing a bottle shop worker.
A woman who once wielded an axe at emergency services workers awaits her fate for more violent offending, including leave a bottle shop worker concussed.
Kimberley Vera Hudson, 37, appeared in the District Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to multiple fresh counts of assault and theft in March 2024.
In his victim impact statement, the victim of Hudson’s theft at the Thirsty Camel bottle shop said he cans thrown at him and was struck over the head with a glass bottle.
“The pain and disorientation was immediate, however the emotional, physical and financial duress that followed left lasting impacts on my life,” he said.
The victim said he was left “concussed, bruised and shaken”.
“As a result of the above I was forced to make the difficult decision to leave my loved job at the bottle shop, deeply saddened by just how much my right to feel safe at work had been compromised,” he said.
The court heard Hudson also attacked an employee in a separate incident while stealing a bike.
A prosecutor pushed for immediate jail, saying Hudson was both physically and verbally abusive throughout her “very unsophisticated” offending.
Hudson was sentenced to two months’ jail last year after pleading guilty to an array of offences from another incident, including driving in a reckless or dangerous manner, carrying an offensive weapon, driving with excess blood alcohol, assaulting an emergency services worker and driving disqualified or suspended.
Hudson was charged after she wielded an axe at police officers during an incident at Goodwood Rd, on May 12, 2023.
At the time police said Hudson was in a black Holden station wagon which crashed and rolled near Rosa St about 11pm.
She eventually dropped the weapon before being helped out of the car.
She told media she had an axe in her car because she had just travelled from Perth and, after crashing her car, she planned to use it to escape.
“I thought the car was going to blow up, so I thought f--k, I better hit the window,” she said.
On Thursday, Alex Rice, for Hudson, told the court his client was “very drunk” and homeless at the time of both offences and now felt considerable shame.
“She’s got a problem with alcohol,” he said.
“On both occasions she’s really looking to steal, effectively out of desperation.”
Mr Rice pushed for a suspended sentence, telling the court Hudson – who had a “probable but unconfirmed” diagnosis of schizophrenia – had plans to return to Perth once released from custody.
She will be sentenced next month.
