Grant High School closed as car smashes into stobie pole and takes out power in Mount Gambier

A ute with P-plates has smashed into a stobie pole, forcing a high school to shut its doors until the lights come back on.

A ute with P-plates has smashed into a stobie pole overnight, causing a high school in the South-East to shut its doors.

Grant High School in Mount Gambier was forced to close to all students on Wednesday due to the resulting power outage.

Emergency services were called to Hosking Ave just after 2.20am on Wednesday morning after reports a car had hit a stobie pole.

Photos from the Limestone Coast Community News show a white Navara ute with P-plates smashed up against a badly damaged stobie pole behind temporary fencing.

Grant High School principal Caroline Davey posted online to advise the school would be closed on Wednesday due to the power outage.

“Please keep your young people home for today,” she said.

“Sorry for the inconvenience.

As of 10.20am, SA Power Networks were reporting 107 customers in the area around the school were still without power.
