Australia’s largest regional accommodation provider has made its largest acquisition to date, picking up a huge holiday park on the banks of the River Murray.
Australia’s largest regional accommodation provider has made its largest acquisition to date, picking up the BIG4 Renmark Riverfront Holiday Park in South Australia’s Riverland region.
G’day Group, which runs the Discovery Parks network, has taken over the 9ha holiday park on the banks of the River Murray, which hosts more than 380 tourist sites, including 79 cabins, four safari tents, and caravan and camping sites.
A sale price has not been disclosed.
The property features a water park, resort style pool and spa, outdoor movie theatre, sensory room, indoor and outdoor playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts, BMX pump track, indoor gym and yoga studio.
G’day Group founder and chief executive Grant Wilckens said the deal opened the door to similar acquisitions of “flagship holiday parks” across Australia.
“This is a landmark acquisition of one of Australia’s most recognisable and successful holiday parks,” he said.
“We have a clear ambition for Discovery Parks to become the most loved brand in regional tourism, and flagship destinations like Renmark are central to achieving that vision.
“While the park is already highly profitable, we see strong potential to grow year-round visitation through increased marketing, national brand reach and investment in guest experience.
“This is a strategic acquisition that sets the foundation for further growth through targeted investment in iconic destinations that deliver exceptional guest experiences.”
Majority-owned by super fund Australian Retirement Trust, G’day Group’s $2bn portfolio includes the Discovery Parks network of more than 90 owned and operated holiday parks and resorts, and the G’day Parks network of more than 240 independently owned licensed parks.
The group has completed a series of acquisitions in recent months, including the 43-room Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village in Tasmania and Wilpena Pound Resort in the Flinders Ranges, where it is planning a multimillion-dollar redevelopment of the iconic site after years of financial losses.
The Renmark holiday park, previously operated by BIG4, will be rebranded to Discovery Parks - Renmark Riverfront, and integrated into the group’s Discovery Parks network.
G’day Group’s Discovery Parks network includes properties across the country, including in iconic regional destinations Kings Canyon, Rottnest Island and El Questro.
The group’s property portfolio is valued at $2bn, and it has ambitions to lift that to $2.5bn by 2026.
