Flooding at Penny Place Apartments in Adelaide locks out residents for days
Residents have not been able to enter a CBD apartment complex since Saturday night, after what police believe was a deliberate flooding.
Residents of a CBD high-rise apartment complex have had to wait more than four days to re-enter their homes after what police believe was “deliberate flooding” forced tenants out.
The Penny Place Apartments were evacuated on Saturday night after residents reported flooding in the stairwell.
Metropolitan Fire Service crews who attended the building at 8.45pm found several fire hydrants had been turned on, causing flooding throughout the building.
Tenants of the building were told via loudspeaker to “pack a bag” and find alternative accommodation, according to residents who spoke to The Advertiser on Sunday.
“We had 15 minutes to pack bags and get out. That was around midnight,” she said.
On Monday, 7NEWS reported that total damages from the incident may be in the millions of dollars, and residents had been told they couldn’t re-enter the building until Wednesday at the earliest.
MFS crews and SES have mopped the property, with water damage from the 24th floor down.
Police are investigating the flooding, but have yet to identify the suspect.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
