An empty warehouse in Hendon would be transformed into a world-class venue offering attractions including multi-level electric go-kart racing, axe-throwing, mini golf and duckpin bowling under a new plan.

Documents submitted to PlanSA by Sweet Spot Entertainment, an events and hospitality group, said the centre west of Adelaide named McQueen’s would be the first of its kind in the state, also offering Gel Blaster Nexus, interactive darts, virtual reality, esports, arcade gaming and food and beverages under one roof.

Sweet Spot managing director Kosta Mylonas said the two-level go-karting track, which he hoped would become the first multi-level track in South Australia, would be the centre’s “anchor attraction” and the other attractions would “live around that”.

“As far as an indoor facility goes, having this mix of attractions is quite unique,” he said.

“We’re hoping for people to disconnect from their screens and reconnect with each other.”

Planning documents said the “world-class” venue would generate $5m income annually, contribute $3.9m to the state’s economy and drive a $5m tourism spend.

Sweet Spot estimated the venue, designed to accomodate 390 patrons at full capacity, would host more than 95,000 visitors a year amd create 48 new jobs.

The stylish centre would take design inspiration from 1970s American racing culture and 1960s hotel design.

It would operate from 10am until 10pm on weeknights and until 10.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Mr Mylonas said the venue was centred around the trend of “competitive socialising”, described in planning documents as replacing “passive entertainment” with “immersive, interactive experiences that bring friends, families, and colleagues together in thrilling ways”.

He did not wish to share the total development cost but said he was working with investors and a third party may operate the centre’s food and beverage component.

Charles Sturt Council is responsible for approving the development application, which is open for public feedback until May 5.
