Miracle escape for staff, customers as driver, 69, ploughs into Goolwa’s Live N Let Pie bakery
A woman is lucky to be alive after a car smashed into the popular Goolwa bakery this morning.
Staff and customers got an unexpected shock on Sunday morning after a car ploughed through the front of a popular bakery at Goolwa.
Emergency services rushed to Live ‘N’ Let Pie on Hutchinson St at Goolwa at about 11am, after reports that a car had veered off the road and slammed into the building.
Several people were inside the bakery at the time, including a 62-year-old female customer who was injured in the crash, SA Police said.
She was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, along with the 69-year-old local driver of the car who did not appear to be injured, but was taken as a precaution.
State Emergency Service crews attended the scene and helped to shore up the structure, while the car was towed and removed from the scene.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led up to the crash.
The bakery took to social media on Sunday afternoon to announce it has been forced to shut down “until further notice”.
“To those who have cakes ordered we will be in contact very soon,” they wrote on the Sunday afternoon social media post.
“Thank you for all your kind words and messages. We really appreciate you all and a special thanks to the wonderful emergency services who attended.”
