Dale Robert Walsh, Adelaide teacher, sentenced for driving while twice the legal limit

A teacher and father has been sentenced after he was caught drink driving – forced to appear in court in front of school students.

A teacher and father who was caught drink driving through Adelaide’s northern suburbs has appeared in court – in front of another school making a courtroom visit.

Dale Robert Walsh, 48, was sentenced at the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday after being convicted of the offence in his absence last month.

The Modbury North man was pulled over while driving along Darley Rd at Paradise last September 14 and subjected to a breath analysis, which showed a blood alcohol reading of 0.108, the court heard.

His was issued with an instant six-month loss of licence at the time.

When asked what he did for work, Walsh said he was a teacher, glancing at a school class sitting in the gallery at the time of his sentencing.

There’s no suggestion the visiting school is connected to Walsh.

Magistrate Simon Smart said it was the “first drink driving offence of its kind” for Walsh but there were certain minimums that had to be imposed by the courts.

He said bearing in mind the instant six-month loss of licence Walsh had already served, he was imposing a fine of $900 and a further loss of licence of two days.
